Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology from a recognized university or complete a speech-language pathology assistant training program culminating in an associate degree

Responsibilities

  • Student Support Services/Speech and Language Pathologist
  • As a school-based SLPA, the SLPA will work under the direction of a speech-language pathologist to offer speech services to students who require intervention by providing prescribed therapies according to the parameters outlined in students’ individual education plans (IEP)
  • In this position, the primary goal is to help students overcome speech limitations in order to be successful in the classroom and develop essential communication skills
  • Provide drill and practice in accordance with a plan designed by the supervising speech-language pathologist(s)
  • Complete informal progress notes for sessions
  • Review progress notes with supervising speech-language pathologist(s)
  • Transfer progress notes onto Medicaid documentation forms
  • Assist with conference paperwork and filing
  • Maintain therapy room and supplies
  • Prepare therapy materials as directed by the supervising speech-language pathologist(s)
  • Assist the supervising speech-language pathologist(s) with large groups such as integrated therapy and inclusion classes
  • Update computer information on students receiving speech-language therapy
  • Escort students to and from speech-language therapy sessions
  • Make phone calls to schedule screenings and conferences
  • Transfer information provided by the supervising speech-language pathologist(s) onto a rough draft of the evaluation report
  • Update computer information on students receiving speech-language therapy
  • Participate in necessary trainings when required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
