Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology from a recognized university or complete a speech-language pathology assistant training program culminating in an associate degree
Responsibilities
- Student Support Services/Speech and Language Pathologist
- As a school-based SLPA, the SLPA will work under the direction of a speech-language pathologist to offer speech services to students who require intervention by providing prescribed therapies according to the parameters outlined in students’ individual education plans (IEP)
- In this position, the primary goal is to help students overcome speech limitations in order to be successful in the classroom and develop essential communication skills
- Provide drill and practice in accordance with a plan designed by the supervising speech-language pathologist(s)
- Complete informal progress notes for sessions
- Review progress notes with supervising speech-language pathologist(s)
- Transfer progress notes onto Medicaid documentation forms
- Assist with conference paperwork and filing
- Maintain therapy room and supplies
- Prepare therapy materials as directed by the supervising speech-language pathologist(s)
- Assist the supervising speech-language pathologist(s) with large groups such as integrated therapy and inclusion classes
- Update computer information on students receiving speech-language therapy
- Escort students to and from speech-language therapy sessions
- Make phone calls to schedule screenings and conferences
- Transfer information provided by the supervising speech-language pathologist(s) onto a rough draft of the evaluation report
- Update computer information on students receiving speech-language therapy
- Participate in necessary trainings when required
- Perform other duties as assigned
