Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to serve as both the Head Boys Basketball Coach and a Physical Education (PE) Teacher. This role requires a professional educator and coach who is committed to developing students’ athletic skills, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for health and wellness. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a competitive basketball program while also delivering engaging and effective PE instruction to students.
Key Responsibilities
Head Boys Basketball Coach Duties:
- Program Leadership: Oversee all aspects of the boys’ basketball program, including the varsity, junior varsity, and any feeder programs. Develop a comprehensive program philosophy, implement a consistent coaching style, and set clear expectations for student-athletes.
- Instruction: Plan and conduct all team practices, emphasizing skill development, strategic execution, and physical conditioning. Prepare the team for competitions by scouting opponents, developing game plans, and providing in-game coaching.
- Player Development: Cultivate a positive and challenging environment that encourages players to reach their full potential both on and off the court. Mentor student-athletes on leadership, discipline, and academic success.
- Administrative & Logistical: Manage the basketball program’s budget, equipment inventory, and travel arrangements. Ensure all program activities comply with all school, district, and state athletic association rules and regulations.
Physical Education Teacher Duties:
- Curriculum & Instruction: Develop and implement a comprehensive and inclusive PE curriculum that aligns with state standards. Teach students about physical fitness, motor skills, health, and a variety of sports and activities.
- Classroom Management: Create a safe, positive, and structured learning environment. Supervise students and ensure the proper use of all equipment and facilities.
- Assessment: Evaluate student progress and performance through various assessment methods, providing feedback and maintaining accurate records.
- Collaboration: Work with other PE staff and teachers to coordinate activities and promote a holistic approach to student wellness.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Certification: A bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field is required. Must hold a valid Arkansas teaching license with the appropriate Physical Education endorsement or be eligible to obtain it. Coaching certifications and a coaching endorsement are also required.
- Experience: Previous experience as a head basketball coach or a significant assistant coaching role is required. Experience teaching physical education is also essential.

- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of student-athletes and students.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of basketball strategy, rules, and player development techniques. A deep understanding of physical education principles and best practices.
- Work Ethic: Strong organizational skills and a tireless work ethic.
- Background Check: Must pass all state and federal background checks.
