Full-Time Elementary School Nurse

Job Description:

West Fork Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Full-Time Elementary School Nurse to provide comprehensive health services to our students. The ideal candidate will be committed to promoting the health and well-being of elementary-aged children, managing health needs within the school environment, and collaborating with staff, parents, and healthcare providers to support student success. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.

Qualifications:

  • Arkansas Registered Nurse (RN) License: Must hold a valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arkansas.
  • Certification: Current certification in CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is required.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience: Experience in pediatric, community health, emergency, or school nursing is preferred.
  • Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development, common childhood illnesses, chronic health conditions, and emergency medical procedures. Familiarity with Arkansas Department of Health guidelines for schools is a plus.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, school staff, and medical professionals.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate and confidential health records.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team to support student health and academic success.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, medication administration, and management of chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, allergies).
  • Assess student health needs, develop individualized health plans (IHPs), and implement emergency care plans (ECPs) in collaboration with parents, physicians, and school staff.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization records, health screenings, and incident reports, in compliance with state and federal regulations (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA).
  • Conduct health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) as mandated by state law and district policy.
  • Serve as a health resource for students, parents, and school staff, providing education on health promotion, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Administer and monitor medications according to physician orders and district policy.
  • Respond to medical emergencies in the school setting and provide appropriate care and documentation.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and counselors to address student health concerns that may impact learning.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school health policies and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in school nursing and pediatric health.
  • Contribute positively to the overall school culture and actively participate in school-wide initiatives.
