Position Summary
The ideal candidate will be a highly qualified and enthusiastic educator responsible for instructing 7th and 8th-grade students in social studies. This includes topics like history, geography, civics, and economics, using the Arkansas Social Studies Curriculum Framework. The teacher will create a positive and engaging learning environment, manage the classroom effectively, and communicate with students, parents, and colleagues. In addition, the candidate will assume a coaching role for a designated sport or activity, leading students to develop skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching Duties:
- Curriculum & Instruction: Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that align with state standards. Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and materials, including primary source documents, multimedia, and hands-on activities, to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Student Assessment: Evaluate student progress through a range of assessments, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate and complete records of student performance.
- Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning. Enforce all school policies and rules governing student conduct.
- Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with other teachers and staff to plan instructional goals. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and address any academic or behavioral concerns.
Coaching Duties:
- Team Development: Plan and conduct regular practices, developing a schedule that balances individual skill development with team strategy. Assess players’ abilities and assign team positions.
- Mentorship: Model and teach students the importance of sportsmanship, respect, and discipline both on and off the field. Encourage and motivate students to achieve their full potential.
- Logistics: Work with the Athletic Director to schedule competitions, coordinate transportation, and manage team equipment. Ensure all team activities comply with Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) rules and school policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Licensure:
- Arkansas Licensure: Possess a valid Arkansas teaching license with the required endorsements for teaching middle school social studies.
- Bachelor’s Degree: Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Background Check: Must pass all state and federal background checks.
Skills & Experience:
- Instructional Skills: A deep understanding of social studies content and pedagogy for middle school students.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage classroom activities, student records, and coaching responsibilities.
- Coaching: General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures for the assigned sport, as well as the ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes effectively.
- Team Player: The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators.
