Outdoor Recreation & Physical Education Teacher / Coach

Job Description:

West Fork Schools is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Outdoor Recreation and Physical Education Teacher with additional coaching responsibilities to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and outdoor skills, while also fostering teamwork and sportsmanship through coaching. This position involves developing and delivering engaging PE and outdoor recreation curricula, preparing students for lifelong wellness, and contributing positively to our school’s athletic programs and community. There is a coaching duty tied to this position.

Qualifications:

  • Arkansas Educator’s License: Must hold a valid Arkansas Educator’s License with a Physical Education (K-12) endorsement (or equivalent certification allowing teaching of PE in Arkansas).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience in Physical Education and/or experience in outdoor recreation instruction is preferred. Prior coaching experience at the school or club level is required.
  • Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of physical education standards, outdoor recreation safety, and effective instructional strategies for promoting physical literacy and skill development.
  • Classroom/Field Management: Effective management skills to promote a positive, respectful, and active learning environment both indoors and outdoors.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and athletic staff.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with fellow teachers, athletic directors, and coaches to support student success and school goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned physical education lessons that promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and healthy habits for assigned grade levels.
  • Design and implement outdoor recreation activities that teach valuable outdoor skills, foster an appreciation for nature, and encourage safe participation (e.g., hiking, orienteering, basic camping skills, outdoor games).
  • Serve as a coach, including planning practices, coaching games, and fostering athlete development and sportsmanship.
  • Assess student progress in physical education skills, knowledge, and participation, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment in the gymnasium, on athletic fields, and during outdoor activities, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with other PE teachers, athletic staff, and school personnel to align curriculum, share best practices, and support school-wide initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, athletic schedules, and participation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records, attendance, and athletic rosters as required by district policy.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to physical education, outdoor recreation, and coaching.
  • Contribute positively to the overall school culture and actively participate in school events.
