Special Education Aide Job Description
We’re looking for a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Aide to support students with diverse learning needs. In this role, you’ll work closely with special education teachers to implement individualized education programs (IEPs), provide one-on-one and small group support, and help create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist special education teachers with the implementation of IEPs and behavioral plans.
- Provide direct instructional support to students, individually or in small groups, as directed by the teacher.
- Help students with academic tasks, communication, social skills, and daily living activities.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, documenting observations as needed.
- Assist with classroom management and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support student success.
- Adapt classroom materials and activities under the guidance of the teacher to meet student needs.
- Supervise students during various activities, including lunch, recess, and transitions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or higher in a related field preferred).
- Experience working with children, especially those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help all students succeed.
- Ability to follow directions, work independently, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.1
- Physical ability to assist students with mobility and other needs as required.
